The YYC Music Awards celebrate and amplify the talents of the music community from right here in Calgary. From rock, pop, classical, hip hop, inspirational, jazz and more, Calgary’s musicians are talented and diverse! Now in our 9th year, the YYCMA gala every September celebrates 27 award categories and features live performances that reflect our diversity.
JazzYYC is Calgary’s jazz collaborative, supporting jazz year around. Whether you’re a jazz musician, a die hard jazz fan or a jazz dabbler, we have something for you. JazzYYC presents an annual concert series (Illuminate), two jazz festivals, International Jazz Days concerts culminating on April 30th, and co-presents concerts totaling a remarkable 250+ shows each year. JazzYYC also encourages community partnership and education programs for young jazz musicians throughout the city with our Youth Lab Band.
Esteban Herrera, presented in partnership with JazzYYC, is a versatile musician from Mexico with 13 albums as a leader, including his 2023 YYC Music Award-winning project for World Recording of the Year. His original approach combines contemporary world jazz with Latin heritage. He was also nominated for a JUNO Award nomination in 2022 for Jazz Album of the Year (Group).
2023 nominee for the YYC Music Award for Country Recording of the Year, Scarlett Butler is a Canadian music duo comprised of Troy Kokol and Joni Delaurier. Accomplished songwriters in their own right, they are known for crafting songs country fans have probably heard on the radio.
2023 winners of the YYC Music Award for Rock Recording of the Year, The Hi-Tops are a rolling force of sonic chaos, known for setting stages ablaze with their electrifying performances.
2023 nominee for the YYC Music Award for Rap Recording of the Year, Kam Prada creates relatable soundscapes punctuated by punk rock spirit, pop ambition, melody-rich hi-hop, and even a hint of country. With over 20 million streams and counting, Kam Prada is already a star on the international scene.
