Bio
Leah Petrucci is a glass artist with a focus on sculptural work. Born and raised in Calgary, she earned a BFA from the Alberta University of Arts and continues to practice in her home city. She works mainly in hot glass, however, enjoys the diversity and challenge of working with other material processes as well.
“Home” is an important influence throughout Leah’s life. Leah’s work explores ideas of identity and how it relates to childhood and home.
Leah is fascinated by the qualities of glass. Glass has several different properties and can create such diverse outcomes when worked. Moving forward, Leah is enthusiastic about exploring strategies that carry messages and embody experiences to create a more interactive experience between the work and audience. She hopes that new relationships emerge with this fusion of interactivity and art, where the audience is “doing” rather than just “admiring.”
During Chinook Blast 2023 Leah connected with Kath Blair and had the opportunity to learn and experiment with lights, sensors and gears to create movement in her work City Scape.
Leah’s goal is to provide an opportunity for people to come together, interact with the art, feel a sense of place and “home,” and enjoy a moment of fun and youthful play during the day.
Kathryn Blair is a PhD candidate in the Computational Media Design program at the University of Calgary. She completed her Master of Fine Arts there in 2018.
Her work provides contexts in which people can explore the way our societies use algorithmic decision-making through participatory art experiences. She also creates wearable art exploring the relationship between the body and technology using biosensors that control light, sound and motion.
She has participated in the Calgary-based tech fashion show Make Fashion since 2013, and has shown her work in Alberta, British Columbia, China, the United States and Ireland.
