WHAT IS MAGICAL REALISM?
Magical realism is a genre of literature that depicts the real world as having an element or overlay of magical or fantastical elements. A work of magical realism is still grounded in the real world; however, magical or fantastical elements are considered to be normal in this world, blurring the line between fantasy and reality. Pieces written in the magical realism style are intended to be a commentary or critique about society. Learn more about the genre and see examples by joining the workshop!
