Starting out as a seven-piece stank’n’soul orchestra, Deicha & The VuDudes wholeheartedly subscribe to that more-is-more funk aesthetic, with sometimes as many as nine or ten musicians onstage. The delicious sum of these parts is a moody, bluesy, soulquakin’ vibe that tucks right in the pocket of old-school funk, while layering in euro backbeats, foreboding swamp, and hip-shaking rhythms that underpin their mix of originals and obscure pearls. Helming this audacious sonic adventure is the charismatic Deicha Carter, whose gutsy vocals and spellbinding stage presence lure listeners to the edge of abandon.
