CHINOOK BLAST

Introducing Electric Dandelions: magnificent sculptures crafted from sturdy steel, translucent polycarbonate, and vibrant LEDs. By day, these towering structures captivate with their representation of a dandelion in full bloom. However, as the sun sets, they transform into a breathtaking spectacle—an ever-changing fireworks display that enchants the night.

The Cloud Swing is a playful, interactive installation that transforms the simple act of swinging into an illuminated experience of wonder and nostalgia. Suspended from glowing cloud forms, each swing responds to motion—shifting from a steady hue to a vibrant display of color powered by the participant’s movement. When empty, the clouds glow softly, inviting others to engage and set the artwork in motion.

The Electric Grove is a mesmerizing art installation featuring an enchanting array of LED trees. Each tree stands 10 feet tall and features hand sculpted bark that branch out into intricate, organic patterns. The branches are adorned with hundreds of LED leaves, softly glowing in vibrant colors.

Crystal Wishes is a standalone projection structure that invites Chinook Blast attendees to rest, reflect and wish at a larger-than-life wishing well. Speak from the heart and watch as projections created by local artists react to your voice.

The Parallax Wayfinder Array is an experiential art installation where shifting perspectives reveal different patterns and shadows. Handcrafted with weather-resistant art panels and full-spectrum LED technology, this modular public artwork transforms outdoor spaces into immersive landscapes of ever-changing color and light. Each illuminated pillar invites exploration, creating pathways through beauty and wonder.

A new series of lanterns bathe this public space in an interlocking puzzle of saturated light patterns.

Out from Under the Shadows3, Winner of Winter City Design Competition, is a sculptural form that utilizes shadow projections to create a greater sense of the public space in and surrounding the artwork. It invites attendees to explore and navigate this space and employs methods of placemaking where the viewer is an integral part of the final synthesis of the sculpture; where space transitions into place via the people-in-place.

Where Light Gathers is a collection of glowing selfie stations created in collaboration between Fuse33 Makerspace and local Calgary artists. Each illuminated piece tells a story that visitors are invited to step into, becoming part of the artwork as they pose, play, and capture magical photos that bring people together on winter nights.

Luminisona is an immersive art installation where sound and light converge to create a captivating experience. Its design is inspired by the harmony of nature and technology, the piece transforms rustic wood and modern LED systems into a living canvas of colour and sound.

LightScape is a large-scale, interactive light installation that invites participants to become co-creators of a glowing community artwork. Using colourful translucent bottles inserted into an illuminated wall, guests can design, rearrange, and transform patterns of light throughout the event. Designed for all ages to enjoy, LightScape blends art, light, and interactivity to inspire connection and imagination in everyone who encounters it.

This project reimagines the constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor as two cosmic beings: The Great Bear, symbolizing strength and protection, and the Little Bear, a Teddy Bear, symbolizing innocence and love. Their story unfolds through a frame-by-frame hand-drawn animation. Each “frame” is coloured by community members, ensuring every moment carries a unique imprint of collective creativity.

Frost and Found is an interactive sculpture of light and steel. From afar it is a beacon on a cold winter night, but once inside look up and be surrounded by falling snow. Reach the middle of the storm and look up at a large snowflake canopy framing the night sky. Take a moment to reflect, feel the air, see the lights, and be present.
